Etsy Selling Success Cash In On Your Creations eBook Elyse Reynolds
I am considering selling on Etsy so I gave this book special attention. It is very easy to read, everything is explained in a logical sequence so you can follow it when establishing your Etsy store.
The book covers all the major points: is Etsy right for somebody, establishing identity, setting up a shop, marketing and providing customer service. It saves some time to do the research.
I found the part on market research to be really useful and I think this is the most important part before you even start thinking of selling something.
I like that the emphasis is put on establishing an identity, because it is today very hard to be visible and remembered with so many sellers on Etsy. Still, in that chapter, I would have preferred the author to list all the items one needs to design and create to have an essential group of own branded items (for example, invoice is nowhere mentioned). Some of the items can be found in another part of the book, it is just that it would be useful to have it all in one place so that one can have a to do list immediately.
The chapter on setting up a shop is quite detailed and I like that the author is making you aware of a cost structure when pricing your own products.
The chapter on marketing is OK because it lists the tools you can use. You can quickly see what are the tools you are familiar with (for example Facebook) and what are the tools you need to learn more about. However, here I would like to see more examples from author's experience - how quickly did she gain following on Facebook, or Twitter, or is she only listing her own items on Pinterest, for example.
And I loved the final chapter on customer service, because it is really important. So many sellers neglect this, so it is a solid differentiation point.
Overall, the book is a solid start if you don't know anything about Etsy, but I would say it is not for persons who already have established shops. In some areas it is quite detailed (for example dividing the length of your packaging tape to come to per package cost) which you might find useful.
Therefore it was quite surprising to me that nowhere in the book the cost of listing items on Etsy is mentioned. Or the cost of PayPal.
My recommendation to the author would be to address all the costs that are connected with doing business on Etsy, so that readers can understand it. And to include a link to her shop so that we can see how she developed the things she is writing about. I would love to see the photos, the identity and examples of good product descriptions.
As you can see from my suggestions for improvement, I would love to see the book a bit more practical, therefore I give it 3.5 stars.

Etsy Selling Success Cash In On Your Creations eBook Elyse Reynolds Reviews
I have read many books on the subject of Etsy...but this one is by far the most simplistic teaching on the usage and understanding of how to become an Etsy seller. If you are trying to determine which book to buy on this subject buy this book you won't regret it. This book is priceless its the best source of information that I've encountered thus far about Etsy.
I've dabbled in a lot of things, one of the most obscure being basketweaving. Yeah, yeah, I've heard the jokes. I even made a few before I took my first lesson. It DOES require lessons, the first few times anyway. It takes lessons, needlenose pliers, wire cutters, clothes pins, various sizes of splint, sometimes preformed hoops and always a large container to hold warm water. Oh yeah, and waxed dental floss. (Some people have even used Kudzu for baskets. Too bad someone doesn't package the stuff commercially. Maybe then we could export the processed stuff to Asia as well as use it here. Wonder if it would make a dent in the supply?)
Occasionally I tie a basket to a specific shape to dry. I tie my heart basket to get nice curves and my market basket to get sharp corners.
I was exploring the possibility of selling baskets. The woman who taught me sells baskets to the state parks. She said if they paid her $40 for a basket they would slap an $80 price tag on it when it went into the gift shop, and she had to sign a contract stating she wouldn't sell to anyone else.
I've donated baskets to my children's various schools for fall festivals and made them for teachers' Christmas presents when my children asked me to do so.
My children knew how long it took to make each basket. They only asked if the teacher was special. Then I was happy to oblige. Lots of teachers go beyond what's required of them. If I could do some little something to show my appreciation, I did.
But this book showed me something I already knew no one really understands how much work goes into a basket, so I could earn a better paycheck at McDonald's.
Many of the people who sell through Etsy make jewelry. Some earrings can be made in less than an hour; I've done it. Other pairs take three to four hours. A pendant can be easy while a bracelet or necklace can take the better part of a day.
I've made quilted, lined purses with pockets on the inside and monogrammed a few. That's about an afternoon of sewing. You'd be surprised how many ignorant people look me straight in the eyes and say,"Make me one."
People have no concept of the amount of time it takes to make something.
If you have a hobby, other than basketweaving, you will find this book addresses all the questions a rookie might have, from selecting your company icon to setting up a shipping account with whomever you chose. You're even cautioned to separate your items by size, interest and season. And just in case you have customers who drop in, keep your sales area neat.
So I admire those people who can make a living at Etsy. It seems, though, that people have poked fun at basketweaving too many years for me to add my name to that list.
I have often toyed with the idea of selling my crafts on Etsy but didn't want to get started off on the wrong foot and end up discouraged with the result. This short and sweet book has taken my apprehension away!!
Ms. Reynolds does an excellent job covering the process from a raw idea to top-notch customer service. She thoroughly explains how to do the research to determine if you have a product that might sell and how to determine price points including the dreaded shipping and handling costs.
From this book I learned 1) how to do market research; 2) how to price my product; 3) how to set up a professional looking cohesive store brand; 4) how to market though several methods to increase traffic to my Etsy store; 5) how to provide top-notch customer service to people you never meet face-to-face.
I have downloaded many free books on my and always was happy to say I am glad I didn't pay. This information in this book would have been worth actually purchasing.
